Bruce Sanderson

This white's broad profile wraps around lime, apple and butterscotch flavors. Feels a little diffuse midpalate, ending with a toasty oak note and echoes of butterscotch. Drink now through 2027. 240 cases made, 60 cases imported.

Stuart Pigott

A refined and minerally Chassagne-Montrachet with delicate aromas of dried pears, fresh hazelnuts and butterscotch. Beautiful texture on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Then comes the long, focused finish that is the best thing about this beauty. Drink or hold.

The estate

Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, Maison Louis Latour draws its origins from a lineage of Burgundian coopers established since 1731. This independent family estate, run by the Latour family according to the tradition of the given name Louis passed from father to son, holds the largest domain of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or. Located in Bourgogne on the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, it stands out for its unique cooper-vintner heritage and its pioneering role in the export of Burgundy wines.

The vineyard

The parcel of "La Grande Montagne" covers half a hectare at the top of the Montagne de Chassagne-Montrachet, at 310 meters altitude. Accessible by a small dirt path, this exceptional terroir is surrounded by vegetation and rests on marl and limestone soils. The Chardonnay vines, averaging 30 years of age, benefit from controlled yields of 40 hectoliters per hectare and are harvested by hand.

Winemaking and ageing

Winemaking is carried out traditionally in oak barrels with complete malolactic fermentation. The ageing takes place over 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels with medium toast, 50% of which are new barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage.

Grape variety

This premier cru is made exclusively from Chardonnay, the emblematic grape variety of the great white wines of Bourgogne.
