Decanter

Wildly fragrant, inky, blue fruit, tobacco almost headily perfumed. Pure and juicy, so approachable and accessible straight away with a bouncy element to the fine tannins and plump yet super bright fruit. The Cabernet brings a touch of backbone just straightening things out to the long finish, giving an undercurrent of structure and subtle power. But overall this is relaxed and super charming.

Vivid, bright, crisp, fresh red fruits create the core of the wine in the nose, and on the palate. The medium-bodied, lifted, red berry finish is clean, sweet, and juicy. 13.6% ABV. Drink from 2029-2040. 91-93 Pts

Concentrated, a ton of sleek graphite, crayon, liqourice root, we are fully in the heart of Las Cases here, with its grip and slow climb through the palate, on the right side of austere, cocoa bean and cassis, a full mouth experience, push and pull, tension and grip. A fabulous 2nd wine, right up there with the best of the vintage. Michael Georges technical director. 30% new oak for ageing. Includes the vines for La Petite Marquise since the 2021 vintage.

Refined and precise, the bouquet reveals subtle ageing nuances, a hint of peppermint, then more pronounced aromas of iris and black berries. Dense on the attack, the wine is impressive both for its serenity and its fruity expression and savoury character. Fine-grained tannins provide well-framed power, while the acidity ensures a lively, incisive profile. A precise, refreshing, subtle and powerful wine. It is thrilling and fervently heralds its big brother!

Deep, intense, beautiful red colour. Very aromatic nose with ripe fruit, unfolding with subtlety and complexity in the glass. Precise on entry, highly aromatic through the mid-palate, with a creamy texture that carries through the whole tasting; the wine melts on the palate, juicy, noble and sophisticated. A lovely burst of fruit on the finish. Blend: 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13.6% - pH: 3.5 - IPT: 71. Yield: 23 hl/ha.

Tasting notes and characteristics of the Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2025

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a dark ruby colour leaning towards deep garnet, enhanced by subtle violet reflections and beautiful legs.

Nose
The bouquet is precise and fragrant, revealing aromas of fully ripe black fruits such as blackberry, plum and blackcurrant, nuanced by hints of red fruits. The whole is enriched by delicate floral notes, sweet spices, as well as woody nuances reminiscent of cedar, vanilla and graphite.

Palate
The attack is lively and fresh, offering a fruity and particularly juicy profile. The structure is both serious and elegant, supported by tannins of great finesse and a characteristic mineral backbone. The balance is ensured by a beautiful, bright acidity that stretches the wine towards a long and harmonious finish.

Food and wine pairings
This Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2025 pairs ideally with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a fine ribeye steak or a rack of lamb. It will also wonderfully accompany game dishes, truffle recipes, flavourful bistro cuisine or a platter of aged hard cheeses.

Serving and cellaring
Boasting excellent ageing potential, this wine can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until 2040.

The elegance of a great second wine from Saint-Julien

The estate
Located in the famous region of Bordeaux, Château Léoville Las Cases was officially created in 1840, following the division of a vast historic estate. Today, this prestigious property is run by Jean-Hubert Delon, the current owner and manager. The vineyard extends over approximately 97 hectares and produces wines of remarkable quality. Often referred to as a "super second", this emblematic cru stands out for its exceptional consistency and its ability to rival the greatest names of its appellation.

The vineyard
The vines intended for this second wine benefit from a complex terroir within the Saint-Julien appellation. The soils are mainly composed of Quaternary gravel resting on clay-gravel and sandy-gravel subsoils, with the presence of more compact clays. The immediate proximity of the Gironde estuary offers a microclimate that protects against frost and promotes early ripening of the berries. The Merlot plots, located near Pauillac, benefit from excellent exposure and the freshness of the river.

The vintage
The year was characterised by a sunny and hot season, the excesses of which were tempered by the influence of the neighbouring river. This rare vintage stands out for its historically low yields. Particular attention was paid to the vineyard throughout the growing cycle, notably by maintaining higher foliage in order to provide shade and protect the bunches.

Winemaking and ageing
This Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2025 represents the third vintage produced in the estate's new facilities, allowing for greater precision thanks to micro-vinifications. Ageing then took place in French oak barrels, including 27% new barrels, over a period of approximately fourteen months. Alcohol content: 13.6%.

Grape varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon (49%), Merlot (48%), Cabernet Franc (3%).
