The Sagacious 2013 from Law Estates Wines estate elegantly translates the structure and power of the typical grape varieties of the Rhône Valley into a balanced blend from a vintage that had a growing season marked by drought that resulted in very low yields.
The Paso Robles vineyard, located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, is California's rising star. Law Estate Wines is the fruit of the passion and energy of the couple Don and Susie Law, both lovers of fine wines from the Rhône Valley.
The blend consists of 37% Grenache for 34% Mourvèdre and 29% Syrah. The Sagacious 2013 pays homage to Rhône blends while retaining the typical expression of its terroir and the richness of its calcareous soils, which are imparted on the wines.
The special feature of the Sagacious Vintage 2013 is the harmonious combination of Spanish and French Mourvèdre clones. To develop all its aromatic complexity, the wine is aged in casks and barrels over a period of 22 months.
At tasting, the Sagacious 2013 has a pigmented dark red colour, a colour that the Rhône varieties know how to bring to a blend. On the nose, it starts with intense blackberry and jammy fruit notes and then is enhanced with delicate violet scents. The freshness of the white pepper and the warmth of the cardamom due to ageing complete the spicy notes on the nose. On the palate, the wine reveals all the richness of its personality. There is a full mouthfeel with a creamy texture, and blackcurrant and plum notes that give way to generous notes of slightly bitter dark chocolate. The finish is persistent with a beautiful acidity, and this allows the wine to be cellared up until 2028.
