Meeting his future wife and in-laws, wine-growers in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, was what introduced Jean-Marc Brocard, then an engineer, to vineyard- and wine-related work. It was in 1973 that Jean-Marc Brocard planted his first vines in Préhy, at the heart of the Chablisian vineyard. His son, Julien, joined the estate in 1995 and quickly became fascinated by biodynamic methods, which he gradually applied to the estate’s plots.
Rightly recognised as an expert of his terroir in Chablis, Jean-Marc Brocard’s respect for his land has remained the bedrock of his work and ethical code. This is why he has always sought to apply ecological principles, limiting manmade operations and being guided by the ambition to reveal authentic Chablisian climates. This results in direct, pure and mineral wines.
A true product of its time, the Jean-Marc Brocard estate is, today, one of Burgundy’s most important and influential producers of organically farmed wines.
With a surface area of over 140 hectares, the vineyard at the Jean-Marc Brocard estate is located at the heart of the Chablis appellation. With vines aged by 40 years on average, the vineyard brings together the Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Chablis Grand Cru appellations.
The Chablis 1er cru "Fourchaume" 2019 by Jean-Marc Brocard is produced by a terroir which richness and uniqueness are derived from the alluvium carried by the Serein, a river which passes through the appellation.
Winemaking and ageing
Vinification with native yeasts. Malolactic fermentation. The ageing, which lasts for 14 months, is carried out in stainless steel vats (30%) and tuns (70%).
The Chablis 1er cru "Fourchaume" 2019 by Jean-Marc Brocard is 100% Chardonnay.
The wine is a beautiful golden colour with green highlights.
The nose unveils intense, toasted notes with a beautiful freshness.
The palate seduces with its saline notes and its delicacy.
For an optimal tasting, serve between 12 and 14°C.
Food and wine pairings
The Chablis 1er cru "Fourchaume" 2019 by Jean-Marc Brocard goes perfectly with fish, seafood, and creamy or grilled shellfish. Poultry and creamy or grilled white meats would also be elegant pairings.
