Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the "Cuvée Corcelette" 2023 Jean Foillard
Tasting
Colour
This French red wine reveals a bright ruby colour, clear and delicately translucent.
Nose
Delicately floral, the bouquet exudes scents of violet and peony, intertwined with aromas of fresh red fruits such as raspberry, strawberry and cherry. Subtle mineral, spicy and undergrowth notes enrich this aromatic palette.
Palate
The attack is fine and vibrant, revealing a silky texture supported by remarkably delicate chalky tannins. The perfectly integrated acidity brings a lovely freshness that accompanies fruity and mineral flavours through to a subtly spicy finish.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with herb-roasted poultry, fine charcuterie or pork-based dishes. After a few years of ageing, it will beautifully complement braised beef or vegetarian dishes with mushrooms and root vegetables. As for cheese, favour soft-rind varieties such as Reblochon or Époisses.
Service and storage
The "Cuvée Corcelette" 2023 can be enjoyed in its youth for its freshness, but also has fine ageing potential, allowing it to be cellared and enjoyed until around 2033.
Other characteristics
The alcohol content of this wine is 12.5%.
The finesse of a great Morgon wine by Jean Foillard
The estate
Located in Villié-Morgon, the Jean Foillard estate was established in 1981 when Jean took over the family property. An emblematic figure of Beaujolais, this pioneering winegrower built the reputation of his wines through a philosophy centred on respect for terroir and natural methods. Today, the estate spans approximately 23 hectares. Jean Foillard, still at the helm, is gradually being joined by his son Alex Foillard. Together, they uphold values of authenticity, producing cuvées of great purity that express the full singularity of their terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Cuvée Corcelette" comes from a specific plot located in the Corcelette climat, in the northern part of the Morgon appellation. The vines, aged between 40 and nearly 100 years old, thrive at altitudes between 260 and 445 metres on sandy-loam soils of decomposed pink granite. Benefiting from a south and south-east exposure, the vineyard is cultivated according to organic farming principles, with manual soil work that encourages deep rooting and a unique mineral expression.
The vintage
The year 2023 proved particularly favourable for the region. The mild weather conditions throughout the growing season allowed the grapes to reach full ripeness while retaining lovely acidity, a guarantee of freshness and balance.
Winemaking and ageing
After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the whole clusters of the "Cuvée Corcelette" 2023 are placed in a cold room. Vinification then takes place using the traditional semi-carbonic maceration method for around fifteen days. The wine is subsequently aged for twelve months in used oak barrels from Burgundy. To preserve all its aromatic complexity and lively character, the wine is bottled without any mechanical filtration.
