Robert Parker

Pierre Rovani

Violets, roses, spices, and candied dark fruits rise from the glass of the murky black/purple-colored 2003 Graham Vintage Port. After four days of air, this wine’s aromatics sweetened further, revealing jammy blackberry and blueberry scents. Bold, full-bodied, and expansive, Graham benefited the most from extended air contact of all the 2003s tasted for this report. This opulently jammy wine assaults the palate with powerful yet soft layers of oily, candied red fruits, as well as notes of tar and hints of mocha. Highly concentrated, it is creamy-textured, suave, and delivers an admirably long finish filled with further layers of dark fruits intermingled with spices. Projected maturity: 2030-2055. Weinwisser

Dark, deep violet-purple. Plenty of black berries, a cold teapot note, currants, chocolate; dense and very complex. A velvety, fleshy palate with plenty of substance, dried fruits and rum notes on a very black-berried finish.

Description

A seductive Vintage Port of richness and structure

The estate

Founded in 1820 and acquired in 1970 by the Symington family, the W&J Graham's Port House is today the only independent British Port House.

If Graham's is one of the first houses to acquire its own vineyards in the Douro Valley, within the Duriense region in northwestern Portugal, it also reflects its pioneering spirit through a constant pursuit of perfection and modernization of viticulture and winemaking methods.

Graham's produces Port wines recognized beyond borders for their finesse, aromatic richness and concentration.

The wine

Produced only in exceptional years, Vintage Ports are the most refined and singular signature of this essential Portuguese estate.

The vintage

Despite low yields, the 2003 vintage gives birth to a Vintage Port that seduces with its tannic structure and broad aromatic palette.

Blend

Porto Blend.
