Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" 2023
Tasting
Colour
With a brilliant golden hue, this wine reveals a beautiful maturity.
Nose
The nose opens onto a remarkable aromatic complexity, blending notes of fresh citrus such as grapefruit and white lemon with delicate floral touches of acacia and mimosa. An iodized minerality rounds out this bouquet perfectly.
Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its great finesse and mineral tension. Characteristic iodized flavours intertwine with subtle notes of white pepper and flint, leading to an exceptionally long and persistently fresh finish.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with seafood such as pan-seared scallops, fresh oysters or prawns. It also goes wonderfully with delicately prepared white fish, such as sea bass roasted with fennel or sole meunière, as well as young goat cheeses.
Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature of between 10 and 12°C. Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" 2023 can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2030.
Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 14% vol.
The mineral elegance and complexity of a white wine from La Clape
The estate
Founded in 1992 by former rugby player Gérard Bertrand, the eponymous company has become an essential reference in the Languedoc. Today, Gérard Bertrand still heads this prestigious group, which oversees a vast vineyard spanning 930 hectares. As a pioneer and global leader in biodynamic viticulture, the estate stands out for its deep commitment to nature. Acquired in 2002, Château l'Hospitalet perfectly embodies this philosophy, combining respect for the Mediterranean terroir with an art of living.
The vineyard
Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the Château l'Hospitalet vineyard spans 82 hectares at the heart of the protected La Clape massif. This terroir benefits from a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, tempered by maritime influence and altitude. The vines, grown biodynamically and Demeter-certified, flourish on two types of soil: fossil-rich limestone marl and Mediterranean red clay. Surrounded by a rich biodiversity of Mediterranean scrubland, the vineyard is managed with limited yields and pruned using the Cordon de Royat method, ensuring optimal berry concentration.
Winemaking and aging
After hand-harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes undergo gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic freshness. The aging of Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" 2023 is then divided into two approaches: around 70% of the wine ages in oak barrels for 8 months to gain complexity, while the remaining 30% is kept in stainless steel tanks.
Grape varieties
This blend is composed of Vermentino, Roussanne, Viognier and Bourboulenc.
