Decanter

Appealing aromatics and initial attack, with sweet oak mixed with well-brushed tannins and soft bramble fruits. Easy to approach, and this is definitely a more gentle Pauillac that should be ready within two to three years. A little tart through the finish. 3.8pH, 30% new oak.

Sweet and ripe currants with dark cherries, too. Floral and perfumed. Medium-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a fresh, vivid finish. Second wine of Pedesclaux. 67% merlot, 27% cabernet sauvignon and 6% petit verdot. Drink after 2025.

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Notes of ripe cherries, a hint of candied orange zest, some cassis and herbal savouriness. Lively, delicate caramel, fine roasted aromas, pleasantly structured, a hint of chocolate, an uncomplicated food companion.

An attractive, rounded example with good harmony, polished and supple red fruit, tobacco, and mild oak. A digest, easy-drinking palate with freshness and length.

Red and black fruits, tobacco, damp earth, and foresty, floral notes all emerge from the 2019 Fleur De Pédesclaux, a solid, medium-bodied, balanced second wine from this estate that's well worth buying and drinking over the coming 10-15 years.

A touch underpowered through the mid palate, there are enjoyable dark fruits here and sweet oak. Unfussy.

Yves Beck

The terroir of Pauillac and the charm of Merlot are a perfect match! Thus, the bouquet of La Fleur de Pédesclaux is fruity and fresh. Fresh, gourmand character on the palate. The wine is balanced, slender, and already very approachable.

Dark color of medium intensity. Very fruity nose, fresh and pure. Very pleasant on the palate, with a lovely texture, precise aromas and no tannic edges. It’s good!

Description

A Silky and Refined Second Wine from Pauillac

The estate

5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, the Château Pédesclaux was founded under the impetus of Urbain-Pierre Pédesclaux, a wine broker, at the beginning of the 19th century. Arriving at the head of the estate in 2009, the Lorenzetti family has raised the cru to the highest level by equipping it with state-of-the-art infrastructure. 2014 notably marks the construction of a new gravity-fed cellar designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. In 2018, Manon Lorenzetti took over the reins of the estate, infusing a dynamic energy into the property.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Pédesclaux extends over 52 hectares of vines spread over 19 different terroirs of Pauillac. Since 2019, the vineyard is in conversion to organic farming. The vineyard is thus managed by Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen, advised by the oenologist Éric Boissenot.

The wine

Second Wine of the estate, this Fleur de Pédesclaux is made from grapes from a terroir with soils composed of Garonne Gravels on a limestone base.

Vinification and aging

Harvested by hand, the grapes undergo a rigorous manual sorting on bunches and then on berries. Gravity-fed vatting is followed by a light crushing. The pre-fermentation maceration is done cold. The gentle extraction is accompanied by racking and punching down. The vinification is carried out in a gravity-fed manner without the use of a pump in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The wine benefits from an aging period of 12 months in oak barrels (including 30% new wood).

Blend

Merlot (67%), cabernet sauvignon (27%) and petit verdot (6%).
