James Suckling

Sweet tobacco, currant and dark-berry aromas follow through to a full body, soft and juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Second wine of Pédesclaux. Drink in 2023.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Delicate aromas of red cherry and cherry, a hint of orange zest, subtle herbal savouriness, medium body, red berry confit, integrated tannins, cherry on the finish, already easy to drink.

Bettane+Desseauve

Not very expressive and lacking purity and finesse to compete with the best in its category. It was the right call to leave it out of the grand vin!

La RVF

Fleur de Pedesclaux is supple and indulgent. An approachable and enjoyable wine.

Description

The refinement of a second wine from Pauillac from a great vintage

The property

5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, the Château Pédesclaux was founded under the impetus of Urbain-Pierre Pédesclaux, a wine broker, at the beginning of the 19th century. Arriving at the head of the estate in 2009, the Lorenzetti family has raised the cru to the highest level by equipping it with state-of-the-art infrastructure. 2014 notably marks the construction of a new gravity-fed cellar designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. In 2018, Manon Lorenzetti took over the reins of the property, infusing a dynamic energy into the estate.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Pédesclaux extends over 52 hectares of vines spread over 19 different terroirs of Pauillac. The vineyard is thus managed by Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen, advised by the oenologist Éric Boissenot.

The wine

Second wine of the property, this Fleur de Pédesclaux is made from grapes from a terroir with soils composed of Garonne Gravels on a limestone base.

The vintage

The 2016 vintage was an exciting one. The capricious weather of the year with sustained and late rains at the beginning of the season followed by a long drought put the nerves of the winegrowers to the test. However, the quality of the vintage is exceptional as soon as the grapes arrive at the vat room. At Château Pédesclaux, the harvest is of such a high level that it is the first time that the 4 grape varieties of the property are assembled in the grand wine.

Blend

Merlot (67%), cabernet sauvignon (30%) and petit verdot (3%).
