Description
The structure and aromatic richness of a red wine from Pic Saint-Loup
The estate
Managed by the three Ravaille brothers, Jean-Marc, Pierre and Xavier, l’Ermitage Pic Saint-Loup is an iconic estate in Languedoc. The Ermitage du Pic Saint-Loup estate is located in a magnificent setting, imbued with the influence of the presence of the majestic Pic Saint-Loup and the Mediterranean on the hills of Saint-Mathieu de Tréviers. Thanks to these 3 brothers’ work, the Ermitage du Pic Saint-Loup estate stands out through the style of its wines, which offer one of the most beautiful expressions of Languedoc. With fond attachment to their vines, the Ravaille brothers cultivate their vineyard biodynamically, without any use of pesticides and using soil ploughing.
The vineyard
The vineyard at the Ermitage du Pic Saint-Loup estate is located on a very big terroir in Languedoc with a real mosaic of terroirs. The vines are planted on soils of hard and soft limestone, conglomerate rock, dolomite, limestone scree of fluvial origin and marl. The Pic Saint-Loup area is characterised by its sufficient level of precipitation in winter, its dry summers and its significant temperature variations between day and night, which allow for a perfect vine ripening cycle. The characteristics of this area indicate "Pic Saint-Loup’s climatic uniqueness which persists through every vintage".
The wine
Produced in the Coteaux du Languedoc appellation, the Saint Agnès cuvée is produced from vines located in the middle of a hillside, upon clay-limestone, white clay and hard limestone soils.
Blend
The Saint Agnès 2018 cuvée by Ermitage Pic Saint-Loup is made from a blend of Syrah (40%), Grenache (40%), Mourvèdre (10%), Carignan (10%).
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are destemmed before being vinified. Ageing is carried out in tuns and barrels for between 12 and 14 months.
Tasting
Colour
The wine is a deep colour, with subtle purplish hints.
Nose
The intense and powerful nose mixes aromas of black fruit, leather, spices and cacao.
Palate
Alongside a supple attack, the palate seduces with its structure, fine tannins and freshness, as well as its notes of cacao and black fruits.
Keeping
The Saint Agnès 2018 cuvée by Ermitage Pic Saint-Loup can wait in the cellar until 2028 to express its full aromatic palette.
