Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2019 from Poisot Père & Fils

Tasting

Color

The color reveals a deep ruby hue with magenta highlights, reflecting a fine phenolic concentration.

Nose

The bouquet is broad and complex, unfolding aromas of crisp red fruits such as blueberry, redcurrant and kirsch. Floral notes of violet accompany these fruity fragrances. With aeration, the nose evolves toward nuances of undergrowth, fur, leather, fine pepper and licorice, characteristic of the Corton terroir.

Palate

On the palate, this wine charms with its silky, creamy texture and its ripe, mouthwatering fruit. The well-integrated tannins provide a velvety, pleasing feel. The long, peppery finish refreshes the palate while echoing the dark fruits and spices perceived on the nose.

Food and wine pairings

This Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2019 is an ideal match for roasted or grilled red meats, feathered and furred game, as well as duck breast with green pepper and a blood orange gastrique. It also pairs well with soft cheeses such as Époisses.

Serving and cellaring

This Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2019 is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 to 16°C. Its aging potential extends through 2039 depending on storage conditions.

A powerful, structured red Burgundy grand cru from Domaine Poisot Père & Fils

The estate

The Domaine Poisot Père & Fils traces its origins back to 1902, when Marie Poisot inherited half of the family vineyard. Based in Aloxe-Corton in Burgundy, this family estate now farms two hectares encompassing three prestigious grands crus: Corton Bressandes, Corton Charlemagne and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Rémi Poisot, a former French Navy officer for twenty-eight years, took over the estate in June 2010 after training at the CFPPA in Beaune. The estate has been certified Haute Valeur Environnementale since 2019 and embraces a minimalist winemaking philosophy to allow the terroir to express itself naturally.

The vineyard

The Corton Bressandes Grand Cru comes from a 0.43-hectare plot located on the lower part of the hill of the Grands Crus of Corton, with a south-eastern exposure. The 50- to 60-year-old pinot noir vines thrive on a stony clay-limestone soil with its characteristic reddish hue, rich in marl and minerals. This Corton hill, the only red grand cru of the Côte de Beaune, benefits from a natural amphitheater with favorably exposed slopes and a microclimate conducive to the full ripening of pinot noir.

The vintage

The 2019 vintage was a favorable year in Burgundy, marked by successful flowering and full ripening without excessive water stress. These optimal conditions enabled the grapes to reach ideal maturity, combining richness in sugars with natural acidity—essential elements for crafting a great wine for aging.

Winemaking and aging

After hand-harvesting and sorting in the vineyard, the grapes for the Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2019 are fully destemmed before being placed in open oak vats. Maceration and vinification last between 15 and 18 days, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs during alcoholic fermentation. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts, without the addition of commercial yeasts. Aging takes place in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, with 30% new oak and 70% second- or third-use barrels. Malolactic fermentation is carried out 100%.
