Description
An intense and velvety biodynamic red from Languedoc
The Domaine Leon Barral Valiniere 2014 is a powerful biodynamic blend of 80% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah from a 4.3-hectare vineyard in the Languedoc appellation of Faugeres. Maceration is carried out for 3 to 4 weeks with regular punch-downs in cement tanks. The must is lightly pressed in a vertical wooden basket press. The wine is aged for 24 to 26 months in oak barrels (of which 10% are new). Only native yeasts are used in the production of this wine.
The Valiniere 2014 from Domaine Leon Barral is quite intense and velvety, with plenty of character, typical of Mourvedre-dominated wines. On the palate it offers plenty of savoury, meaty flavours, along with fine ripe fruits and notes of clove and cinnamon. The Syrah lends the wine more black fruit, along with a hint of black pepper. This wine reveals beautifully balanced, fresh acidity and tannic structure which coats the palate and persists until a charming finish.
