Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Grand Vin 2022 from Domaine de l'Ostal
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals an intense, deep hue, characteristic of blends dominated by Syrah.
Nose
The nose is complex, led by very ripe black fruit from Syrah harvested at fine maturity, enhanced by subtle smoky and spicy notes from barrel ageing.
Palate
The palate is harmonious, ample and rich, with a fresh attack supported by very supple tannins. The persistent finish ends on spicy notes.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs ideally with grilled and roasted red meats, as well as cheeses, terrines and pâtés.
Serving and Cellaring
We recommend serving the Minervois La Livinière 2022 at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This vintage shows excellent ageing potential, with a cellaring window of around 3 to 7 years.
A Syrah-Dominant Minervois La Livinière, Balancing Power and Freshness
The Estate
Domaine de l'Ostal was founded in 2002, when Jean-Michel Cazes, owner of Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, acquired and combined two neighbouring estates in La Livinière, in the heart of the Languedoc. Today, the property extends over 150 hectares, including 60 hectares of vines and 25 hectares of olive trees. The estate is now run by Jean-Michel Cazes and his son Jean-Charles, who have made it a benchmark of the Minervois La Livinière cru, combining Bordeaux expertise with an expression of Languedoc terroir.
The Vineyard
The vineyard from which this wine originates lies within the Minervois La Livinière appellation, at the foot of the Montagne Noire, on south-facing slopes. The soils are clay-limestone, resting on a bedrock of limestone sandstone, typical of the Petit Causse area. This zone benefits from a marked diurnal temperature range, with cool night breezes descending from the Montagne Noire, which help preserve the freshness and balance of the grapes despite a hot, dry Mediterranean climate.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage is characterised by Syrah harvested at fine maturity, yielding grapes concentrated in ripe black fruit.
Winemaking and Ageing
This Minervois La Livinière 2022 is aged in oak barrels, which lend it the smoky and spicy notes perceptible on both the nose and the finish, while preserving the integrity of the fruit.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from a blend of Syrah and Grenache, with Syrah being the dominant variety in this cuvée.
