Decanter

Pretty violets and roses on the nose with sweet blackcurrant fruit—delicate and approachable. There’s density and plushness here, the tannins are quite ripe and make their presence known. This has a fairly serious, spicy core; liquorice attacks the mid‑palate and lingers into the long finish. Bramble fruit, a juicy initial impact then quite dense, dry tannins. A perfumed quality to the fruit. Needs time.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Fine herbal savouriness, dark nougat, ripe plums, some vanilla. Medium complexity, savoury texture, vivid tannins, mineral on the finish, delicately leafy on the aftertaste, delicately vegetal on the finish.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Chevalier de Lascombes has a pretty nose of roses and underbrush over a core of blackberry preserves and wild blueberries plus a hint of cracked pepper. Medium-bodied, it is soft, juicy, and uncomplicated with a grippy finish.

Beautifully intense fruit on the bouquet, complemented by notes of chocolate, making the wine already highly inviting! The palate delivers on the bouquet’s promise; it is velvety, elegant, and perfectly balanced. A refined wine, well supported by its tannic structure… it remains a Bordeaux, and that’s exactly as it should be!

Dark, intense color. Very pleasant, aromatic nose. Palate with a delicate touch, flavorful, with a slightly firm finish but without harshness. Normal length.

Powerful, concentrated and textured black cherry, cassis and blueberry fruits, laden with black truffle, cocoa bean and liquorice root. Reduction on the first nose gives a gunsmoke edge; this is full of personality and opens to show fresh acidities and finessed tannins. Such a good vintage at this estate, one to cellar for a good few years and then luxuriate in when it's ready. 40 hl/ha.

Description

The Expression of a Second Wine from Margaux

The Estate

Bearing the patronymic of Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes since the 17th century, the Château Lascombes is marked by the imprint of the ten generations of owners who have shaped its history. Since 2011, the mutualist group MACSF has been the owner. The wines of Château Lascombes are recognized as being among the greatest of the Margaux appellation.

Chevalier de Lascombes is the Second Wine of the estate.

The Vineyard

120 hectares in the Margaux appellation make up the vineyard of this Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855. This vineyard is located on a mosaic of plots whose soils are composed, depending on their location, of a gravelly mound, clayey gravels, and clay-limestone plots.

Vinification and Aging

Harvested by hand, the grapes undergo gentle vinification by infusion. Maceration of 30 to 35 days. Aging in barrels and vats.

Blend

The Chevalier de Lascombes 2019 is a blend of merlot (50%) and cabernet sauvignon (50%).
