Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Hommage Denis Dubourdieu 2019 from Château Reynon
Tasting
Color
The wine displays a deep ruby-red hue with intense violet highlights.
Nose
The bouquet reveals a complex, evolving expression. The first notes evoke grilled meat, charcoal and roasted herbs. With aeration, the nose opens onto aromas of black fruit (blackberry, black cherry), black pepper and Asian spices. Hints of tobacco and violet complete this sophisticated aromatic palette.
Palate
The attack is concentrated and powerful. The tannic structure, fine and persistent, supports a dense core without ever becoming aggressive. The palate shows a lovely, bright acidity that brings verticality and precision to the whole. Flavors of black fruit carry through to a mineral, peppery finish of remarkable length.
Food and wine pairings
This red Bordeaux wine pairs ideally with game meats such as wild boar, venison or wild duck. It also matches perfectly with a roasted leg of lamb or generous beef dishes such as cassoulet. Mushroom-based dishes and aged cheeses also make excellent pairings.
Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to decant Hommage Denis Dubourdieu 2019 a few hours before serving to allow the wine to fully open up. The ideal serving temperature is between 16 and 18°C.
A pure, expressive Petit Verdot
The estate
Established at the end of the 19th century in Béguey, near Cadillac, Château Reynon is a 33-hectare Bordeaux estate, with 28 hectares under vine. Owned by the Dubourdieu family, the château is now run by Florence Dubourdieu and her sons Fabrice and Jean-Jacques. The vineyard sits on deep gravel at the top of the slopes and clay on the inclines. The estate stands out in particular for its single-varietal Petit Verdot parcel and its red wines aged for 12 months in barrels.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from a plot planted in 2005, located on the estate’s deep clay slopes with a southeast exposure. This deep-clay terroir, characteristic of this part of the Bordeaux vineyard near Cadillac, gives the wine its distinctive mineral structure. The optimal exposure and the nature of the soils allow Petit Verdot, a late-ripening and demanding grape variety, to reach ideal physiological ripeness.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux benefited from favorable climatic conditions. After a mild winter, spring was marked by contrasts, with cool temperatures followed by a prolonged heatwave from mid-May to mid-August. Exceptional sunshine and periods of drought allowed the grapes to achieve optimal concentration. Late-August rainfall provided the balance needed for harmonious ripening, leading to harvests under sunny skies.
Vinification and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand. Vinification for this Hommage Denis Dubourdieu 2019 takes place in concrete vats with slow, controlled extraction. Pressing is carried out gently to preserve the finesse of the tannins. The wine is then aged for 12 months in oak barrels, allowing harmonious integration of the components and the development of aromatic complexity.
