Description
The density and complexity of a great Pomerol red wine
The estate
Founded in 1920 by the grandparents, it was in 1978 that the renowned oenologist Michel Rolland and his brother took over from their father at the helm of Château Bon Pasteur, a grand cru from Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The 6.6 hectares of Pomerol are spread over 23 parcels of typical terroir, offering a model vineyard and outstanding wines. The vineyard is managed using sustainable farming practices, earning the estate the Haute Valeur Environnementale certification.
The vintage
After a mild autumn and a cool early winter, temperatures rose, leading to an early budburst. The cool, wet spring was offset by a hot, dry summer, resulting in a homogeneous and rapid veraison. The day/night temperature variations enhanced the aromatic quality of the berries, which reached perfect ripeness for harvest.
Winemaking and aging
Manual harvest, double sorting after destemming. Intra-parcel selection. Whole-bunch vinification. Alcoholic fermentation in new barrels. Aged for 15 to 18 months.
Blend
Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (20%)
