Description
An exceptional gift set bringing together three vintages of a Grand Cru Classé from Margaux
The estate
Located on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Giscours is a historic property of the Margaux appellation, with vines first planted in the 16th century. This magnificent 3rd Cru Classé of Margaux is a true flagship of the Bordeaux region, with its distinctive neoclassical palace-like architecture, its park of rare species and its buildings, including the beautiful "Ferme Suzanne". Since 1995, Château Giscours has entered a new era in its history following its acquisition by the Albada Jelgersma family.
The vineyard
Château Giscours is a Margaux wine produced from a vineyard of 95 hectares of vines in production out of a total of 300 hectares. A true gem, the particularity of Château Giscours' terroir lies in the presence of 3 mounds of deep Garonne gravel that play a decisive role in the ripening cycle of the grapes.
The gift set
The estate unveils a gift set bringing together, in magnum format, three vintages that have marked its contemporary history:
The Château Giscours 1996 displays a deep ruby colour and a complex bouquet blending black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant), earthy notes of tobacco, undergrowth and graphite. On the palate, it stands out with a velvety texture, aromas of plum and truffle, fine tannins and a lingering finish. It pairs ideally with fine red meats, duck or aged cheeses, and is served between 16 and 18°C after one hour of decanting.
The Château Giscours 2006 reveals a deep, shimmering ruby colour, preceding an expressive nose of stewed black fruits — blackberry, blackcurrant — enhanced by wilted rose petals, blond tobacco and liquorice. On the palate, the attack is silky, the fine and velvety tannins envelop flavours of small black fruits and spices, carried by a lively acidity through to a long and persistent finish. Elegant and well balanced, this vintage is at its peak and can be enjoyed until 2032, served at 16-18°C after 3 to 4 hours of decanting.
The Château Giscours 2016 displays a very dark, almost black colour, indicative of great density. On the nose, it expresses aromas of black fruits with a certain restraint that hints at a deep aromatic richness upon swirling. On the palate, it seduces with a dense and elegant tannic structure, contained power and remarkable precision, typical of a great, refined and straightforward Cabernet Sauvignon.
