Decanter

Strong Sauvignon Blanc aromatics with fragrant floral elements. Juicy and alive, this has a citrus and crisp green apple kick - succulent and mouthwatering. A mix between lemon sherbet, pear drops, pineapple chunks and a really cool, fresh apple juice. Lovely combination of flavours ending clean and slightly stony. Textured, racy, fresh, understated. Totally moreish. Doesn’t wow like it can, but there’s something so appealing and compelling about this. 3pH.

Tropical fruits, ginger, honeysuckle, spice, pears, green apples, pineapple, and lemon pith forge the perfume. On the palate, the wine is racy, vibrant, juicy, and fresh. The finish leaves you with with a blast of sweet citrus and juicy white peaches. The wine blends 56% Sauvignon Blanc, with 44% Semillon. 13.17% ABV, 3.0 pH. Drink from 2027-2035. 95-95 Pts

Love the two whites from Cos this year, each with its own character and personality. They field grafted the vines back in 2021 onto more limestone-rich soils, and the results are clear in the glass. This is juicy, characterful, with structure and depth, fleshy white peach and pear, sage and lemongrass, waves of oyster shell and sea spray, steel and silk, with long ageing potential. Harvest August 25 to September 6. % new oak. pH 3, even lower than 2024.

Subtle and complex, the bouquet reveals a wealth of nuances, expressed in detail and without extravagance. Notes of white-fleshed fruit such as pear and apple mingle with aromas of vineyard peach, white flowers and lime. Compact and saline, the wine stands out for its character and elegance—hence its harmony. It is lively, precise, mouthwatering and persistent. Everything a great white wine needs. It has a structure that will allow it to spend time in the cellar, but in truth—and given what it promises—it will be drunk well before then. And that’s perfectly fine. A real success.

Vinum

Toasty notes, nuts, grapefruit, peach, exotic fruits, floral notes; a creamy, almost oily palate showing a certain opulence while remaining elegant; the acidity brings drive and structure, carrying the wine into a long, saline finish. Once again this year, it ranks among the best white wines of the Médoc.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Château Cos d'Estournel 2025 white

Tasting

Appearance
Clear and bright, it reveals a pale yellow hue enhanced by delicate silvery and greenish reflections.

Nose
Highly precise, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white-fleshed fruits such as peach, pear and green apple. It is enriched with vibrant citrus notes like lime and kumquat, complemented by floral touches of honeysuckle and orange blossom. Subtle hints of fresh ginger and chalk perfectly complete this complex ensemble.

Palate
Both powerful and engaging, the attack is lively and refined. The mid-palate reveals a creamy texture and beautiful depth brought by the Sémillon, perfectly balanced by a nervous tension stemming from the limestone soils. The long, persistent finish stretches out on a saline minerality.

Food and wine pairing
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with raw or barely cooked seafood, such as oysters or a white fish tartare. It also enhances shellfish like roasted lobster or grilled langoustines, as well as fine fish served with a lightly creamy sauce. Lastly, it makes an ideal match for fresh goat cheeses or refined Asian cuisine.

Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 7 and 12°C. With a remarkable ageing potential, this vintage can be enjoyed until around 2040, depending on storage conditions.

The elegance of a great terroir in the Bordeaux Dry White appellation

The estate
Founded in 1811 by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, Château Cos d'Estournel now extends over a vineyard of approximately 100 hectares in the heart of the Bordeaux region, in Saint-Estèphe. Recognisable by its exotic architecture adorned with oriental pagodas, this historic estate has been led since 2000 by Michel Reybier. Under his guidance, the cru has modernised its facilities with a fully gravity-fed cellar while preserving the strong identity of its brand. The estate stands out for its pursuit of excellence and its high-precision viticulture, producing wines of exceptional complexity.

The vineyard
Located in the northern part of the Médoc, along the Gironde estuary, the terroir dedicated to this Bordeaux Dry White covers around ten hectares. It benefits from a cool climate and natural ventilation provided by the proximity of the ocean. The vines thrive on clay-limestone and gravelly soils, worked mechanically according to the principles of sustainable agriculture. A rigorous plot-by-plot approach, combined with planting and grafting programmes, ensures optimal grape quality.

The vintage
The year was marked by an early bud break followed by abundant spring rains that helped build essential water reserves. The hot, dry summer was punctuated by welcome rainfall in July and at the end of August, preventing any water stress. The Gironde estuary played a major regulating role, providing cool summer nights that encouraged slow ripening. These ideal climatic conditions led to the earliest harvest since the creation of the white cuvée, beginning in the very first days of September.
