Description
A rich and precise white wine from Patagonia
The estate
In 2004, Piero Incisa della Rocchetta's ambition was to produce great Argentinian wines that would provide the purest expression of the microclimate and terroir of Mainqué, in the Rio Negro region of Patagonia. To achieve this, he founded Bodega Chacra and turned to biodynamic and organic farming. Thus, with the greatest respect for the environment and thanks to a precise knowledge of nature, this bold enthusiast produces pure, delicate, floral wines with an intense minerality.
The name "chacra" in Patagonia refers to pomology, the cultivation of edible fruit, and thus highlights the predestination of the estate's land for viticulture. The chacras are vital energy centres and the wine, by lending itself to joyous and memorable get-togethers, embodies this idea of connecting to one's senses.
The vineyard
Bodega Chacra is located in the heart of the Rio Negro region, a land stemming from the junction between two rivers called Limay and Neuquén. The climate is windy and dry. Nevertheless, the irrigation canals dug by British settlers at the beginning of the 19th century make it a lush and green setting suitable for agriculture.
The wine
Bodega Chacra's Mainqué Chardonnay 2021 is a Patagonian wine produced in collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot, the manager of the eponymous Burgundian estate, on land influenced by limestone and alluvium. The grapes for this wine were harvested early because they ripened earlier than usual while retaining a pleasant acidity.
Vinification and ageing
Aged for 9 months in concrete vats (20%), French oak barrels (70% of which are new) and stainless steel vats (10%).
The blend
Bodega Chacra's Mainqué Chardonnay 2021 is a 100% Chardonnay.
