The 2011 Volnay Santentos Premier Crus from Domaine Jacques Prieur has a beautiful ruby red robe with violet glints. The nose is delicate and ethereal with hints of soft florals and subtle spices. The palate is defined by notes of liquorice that evolves into spicy cocoa. The finish is a warm balance of tannins and freshness. The 2011 Volnay Santentos Premier Crus from Domaine Jacques Prieur is 100% Pinot Noir from sun ripened berries planted in 1997 in the Clos de Santenots. The single ownership of this plot allows for a blended, charming wine with complex tannins.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Volnay 1er Cru Santenots 2011 has a stemmy and herbaceous bouquet that is nonetheless well defined and vigorous, improving all the time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, good tension and a lip-smacking salinity that comes through on the marine-influenced finish. Sturdy and correct this is an endearing and comparatively cerebral Santenots for those who prefer a more reserved, earthier style.
