2013 was very close to repeating the exceptional 2001 (almost) but matches precision, generous and pure flavors with the aromatic power and lusciousness of this 2013vintage. Only a few rare vintages of sweet wines had been so enjoyed during the en-primeur tasting, to the extend we could have wanted to bottle it directly as if it was ready for delivery. The Château Rieussec 2013 immediately sets the tone with a nose of a beautiful richness, with precise and fresh flavours, combining citrus (candied lemon) with fresh apricot and a delicious candied ginger, thus bringing an extra liveliness and tension. After swelling this Sauternes remains on the same lines, with a fruity character increased tenfold, confirming the potential and straightforwardness of this wine. On the palate, its attack has style. We appreciate the accuracy and freshness that the acidity guarantees. Its liquor (less complex than in 2001) offers on the other hand lusciousness and width - retro-olfaction of papaya and kumquat - and unfolds a bouquet of spices, reminiscent of the 2003. Its final is of dazzling length and freshness. This Rieussec 2013 is a highly digestible, with a beautiful aging potential.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The grand vin from Chateau Rieussec is a blend of 95.5% Semillon and 4.5% Sauvignon Blanc picked between September 26 and October 31 over four tries through the vineyard (although some blocks took more than that). The nose is a little closed at the moment, with light honey and a touch of marmalade. The palate is very well-balanced, very tense and focused with superb mineralite toward the lightly viscous finish. This is a classy number, a pretty Rieussec in the making.
