In 1661, Pierre des Mesures de Rauzan, an important winemerchant in Bordeaux, acquired the vineyard and gave his name to the estate. For two centuries generations of the Rauzan family succeeded in the running of the property and the Rauzan-Segla wines grew in reputation in a remarkable way. This Margaux, ranked as a Second Growth, was reborn in 1994 when Chanel became its owner. At that point, everything was set in motion to restore the reputation and rank of this gem of the Margaux appellation. Painstaking soil preparation, pruning, handpicking, sorting of grapesàare some of the precautionary measures vital for the quality of the wines produced. Rauzan-Segla wines offer a generous bouquet with clever elegance expressing the internationally recognised characteristics of the Margaux terroir.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
A classic Margaux, this blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot reveals a dense plum/blue/purple color in addition to a sumptuous perfume of subtle new oak interwoven with underbrush, black currants, black raspberries, spring flowers, and a hint of dusty, loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied with sweet but abundant tannin, and beautiful purity, texture and equilibrium, the 2009 Rauzan Segla will provide enjoyable drinking over the next three decades.
