Château La Tour de Mons

Situated in the village of Soussans in the Margaux appellation zone, the Château La Tour de Mons' history began in the 12th century when it was a feudal fief of 200 hectares. Although, sadly, only a few fortified ruins remain (the tower and watchtower, etc.) as direct evidence of this former stronghold, those who love old stones and the obvious link between wine and religion will undoubtedly appreciate the presence of a chapel which spreads serenity and piety over this historically-charged site. The estate had a succession of owners up until the Clauzel-Binaud family, when the Tour de Mons eventually passed into the hands of the Crédit Agricole in 1996, and it is now masterfully run by Cristel Spinner, the estate's Technical Manager. Since then, major work to reorganise the vines has been undertaken (replanting and drainage) as well as in the cellars and storage areas to ensure that this exceptional Cru Bourgeois benefits from the best conditions to make Margaux vines typical of this appellation. In order to produce wines with a very good reputation, the Tour de Mons has a 50-hectare vineyard whose plots have the advantage of being close to the Garonne River and the Gironde Estuary -- its proximity to the natural air-conditioner of the river means that the grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) can reach optimal maturity without ever suffering from drought. On the gravel, clay and limestone soil and deep sub-soil, each grape variety enjoys the perfect conditions for the vines to give generous, elegant, balanced fine wines.
