The 2006 Beychevelle exhibits a beautiful dark colour. The fruity aromas fully express itself and are marked by notes of black fruit among which is black cherry. The palate is full of fruity aromas discreetly completed with a delicate wooden flavour. The tannins are present without being coarse. On the contrary, they are velvety and carry the wine structure without corrupting the smoothness of the whole. The acidity is specific of this special Bordeaux vintage (as were the 2001 and 2004 vintages) and brings, with its precision, freshness until the finish. The Saint-Julien 2006 Beychevelle can be opened in 2018 or later.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London.The 2006 Château Beychevelle has a more open and more complex bouquet compared to the 2006 Talbot. I appreciate the clarity and detail here with briary, cedar and touches of forest floor, suggesting that it has both feet planted on its drinking plateau. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm grip in the mouth. This is clean and fresh with a fine line of acidity: brambly red fruit, white pepper, cloves and a touch of fennel on the finish. This surpasses previous bottles that I have tasted. Tasted January 2016.
