The cuvée Royale Réserve is a tribute to the ancesters of the Philipponnat family. They were vineyard proprietors, winemakers, providers for Louis 14th and royal magistrates and mayors of Ay ( Champagne region) . This cuvée offers a nice balance between the structure on the palate, the length and vinosity. The robe of this Royale Réserve Brut is a beautiful deep gold with amber glints. The mousse is quick, fine and persistent. On the nose, the bouquet of aromas is rich and complex with notes of flowers of the vineyards, linden-tree, fresh bread, red berries, citrus fruits and a honeyed accent. On the palate, the attack of this champagne is vinous, broad and framed. The finish brings a light hint of biscuit.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The NV Royale Reserve is wonderfully creamy and generous on the palate. Green apples, pears and white flowers are all layered into the expressive finish. This is a delicious entry-level Champagne to drink now and over the next few years. The current release is based on the 2007 vintage, with the addition of 26% reserve wines. Dosage was 8 grams per liter. This bottle was disgorged in August 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2106.
