An elegant and refined Marsannay from Domaine Geantet-Pansiot
The estate
Founded in 1954 by Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot, Domaine Geantet-Pansiot now covers around 13 hectares in Burgundy. Based in Gevrey-Chambertin in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the estate is currently run by Vincent Geantet, who took over in 1989, joined by his son Fabien since 2006. The family practices sustainable viticulture with no herbicides or chemical fertilizers, favoring hand harvesting and winemaking that respects the terroir. Their philosophy is summed up in their motto printed on the labels: "Être sobre, c'est boire bon", reflecting their commitment to elegant, authentic wines.
The vineyard
This Village "Champs Perdrix" 2014 comes from the lieu-dit Champs Perdrix, located in the southern part of the Marsannay appellation, the northernmost village of the Côte de Nuits. This climat enjoys a favorable east to south-east exposure and sits on shallow Comblanchien limestone soils. These limestone terroirs give the wines a distinctive minerality and natural elegance, emphasizing finesse rather than power.
The vintage
The year 2014 in Burgundy began with a mild, dry spring, conducive to strong early growth. However, hailstorms in late June and late July hit certain areas, including Marsannay, reducing yields. The summer proved cool and humid in August before conditions improved. Harvest took place in September in favorable weather, allowing for rigorous grape selection. The 2014 vintage produced elegant, refined Burgundian wines, characterized by freshness and moderate structure.
Winemaking and aging
After hand harvesting, the grapes for Marsannay Village "Champs Perdrix" 2014 are fully destemmed. A cold soak at around 10°C precedes fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place over twelve to eighteen months in French oak barrels, with around 20 to 30% new oak. This measured approach preserves the expression of both fruit and terroir without masking the delicacy of Pinot Noir.
