An Aloxe-Corton from Côte de Beaune with silky tannins and a persistent finish
The estate
Established in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Caroline Frey extends over 7 hectares of vines in organic conversion. Caroline Frey, oenologist and owner, manages this estate according to biodynamic principles, applying her philosophy of "benevolent viticulture".
The vineyard
This Aloxe-Corton wine comes from a 0.5490-hectare plot planted with 45-year-old vines. Located between 200 and 300 meters above sea level, this plot rests on reddish-brown soils dotted with siliceous nodules and flint limestone debris. Depending on the localities, the stony soils produce supple and racy wines, while the clay and marl terrains yield firm and complex cuvées.
The vintage
The year 2020 proved to be the hottest recorded since 1959, with rainfall almost identical to normal. The particularly mild winter caused early budburst. Strong heterogeneity in maturity was observed depending on the terroirs and rainfall episodes. Bunch closure occurred around June 23rd in the most advanced vines. The vegetative cycle of 90 to 100 days was respected, offering delicious first juices endowed with beautiful freshness. This promising vintage proved demanding to manage.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvest for the Aloxe-Corton Village 2020 took place manually on August 26 and 27, with rigorous sorting in the plot and transport in small crates. Vinification took place in temperature-controlled concrete vats, with alcoholic fermentation in vats. Malolactic fermentation took place in oak barrels. Ageing lasted 15 months.
Grape variety
This Burgundy cuvée is made exclusively from Pinot Noir.
