A fine red wine from Moulis-Listrac with finesse and complexity

Vintage after vintage, the iconic Château Poujeaux estate run by the Cuvelier family offers a unique expression of the Médoc through wines that shine with complexity and offer a perfect balance between silkiness and density.

With a difficult, yet delicate 2017 vintage, the Château Poujeaux 2017 reveals the best of Moulis-en-Médoc, an appellation located on the Left Bank in the Bordeaux region. The estate’s vineyard was not spared the frosts that hit at the end of April 2017. The best parcels that escaped the frost were used in the Château Poujeaux 2017. This vintage highlights the efforts of the technical team, and makes this a “technical vintage”.

In a typical Médoc blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (62%) and complemented with Merlot (25%) and Petit Verdot (13%), the Château Poujeaux 2017 expresses the Château's philosophy. The three key elements that define this vintage style are the aromatic fruit freshness, elegance and balance. The palate has structured tannins that give a silky mouthfeel, and then it evolves to finish with a persistent length. The Château Poujeaux 2017 promises to be one of the most beautiful benchmarks in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation with a style that brings fame to the estate.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2017 Poujeaux is blended of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 13% Petit Verdot, aged for 16-18 months in French oak barrels (30% new). Medium to deep garnet-purple color, it has a pronounced nose of fresh blackcurrants, crushed black berries and kirsch with nuances of cedar chest, pencil lead and crushed rocks. Medium bodied, the palate has a good core of pure, expressive black fruits, framed by firm, rugged tannins and loads of freshness, finishing just a tad hard.
