Tasting characteristics and advice for Château Belgrave 2013
Tasting
Color
The color displays a deep ruby-red hue with lovely violet highlights.
Nose
The nose reveals fine aromatic complexity with notes of black fruit, notably blackcurrant and blackberry. Hints of licorice and spices mingle with subtle mineral touches that reflect the Graves terroir.
Palate
The attack is velvety and elegant. The palate offers a well-balanced structure with silky, refined tannins. The lively, lingering finish delivers lovely fruity freshness, supported by a mineral tension that invites you to extend the tasting.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, notably a roasted beef tenderloin or beef medallions. It also goes very well with a leg of lamb with seasonal vegetables or a fine poultry such as roasted quail. Dishes featuring wild forest mushrooms also make a harmonious pairing.
Serving and cellaring
Château Belgrave 2013 benefits from being decanted for around thirty minutes before serving. Ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. This wine can be enjoyed until around 2028.
The finesse and texture of a Haut-Médoc wine
The estate
Founded in 1845 by Bruno Devez, Château Belgrave is a 5th Grand Cru Classé of 1855 located in the heart of the Médoc in Bordeaux, on 60 hectares of deep gravel soils, at the gates of Saint-Julien. At the beginning of the 20th century, Marcel Alibert definitively established the name “Belgrave” and distinguished himself in defending the classified growths. Since 1979, the estate has belonged to Maison Dourthe. The ferret on the label recalls the former hunting lodge the estate originally was.
The vineyard
The Château Belgrave vineyard stretches over deep gravel soils characteristic of the Haut-Médoc. Thanks to its privileged location and gravelly soils, this terroir gives the wines their mineral identity and elegant structure.
The vintage
The 2013 vintage proved demanding from a climatic standpoint. Weather conditions required increased vigilance in the vineyard and rigorous sorting at harvest to select only grapes that had reached optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
Château Belgrave 2013 was carefully vinified in temperature-controlled vats. Aging took place in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its aromatic complexity while preserving the finesse of its tannins and the expression of its terroir.
