2002 was a great year for the Champagne Region. The conditions were extremely favourable to a good ripeness and concentration of flavours; ideal conditions for Chardonnay. This Duval-Leroy Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs (no dosage) bears a beautiful golden colour and a lace of fine sparkling bubbles. On the nose, it releases aromas of great purity such as white flowers or citrus fruits. The palate is of a great finesse and opens up on a structured, rich and pure wine. The mineral notes expressed in this vintage are typical of Chardonnay from the prestigious Côte des Blancs. The lingering finish develops vanilla and woody hints.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
For those of you who prefer secondary aromas to primary ones Duval-Leroy's 2002 Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature is the Champagne you should try. Take a big wine glass and let the wine entertain you with its purity and aromas of hazelnuts, almonds, cacao, brioche, grey and wholemeal bread along with earthy, carrot, mushrooms and citrus flavors. Medium to full-bodied this is a rich, complex and firmly structured Champagne with a very good length and a mineral backbone. Lovely to drink now it is vital enough to age for another couple of years.
