The story of Shafer Vineyards began in 1972 when John Shafer and his wife Bett bought an 84-hectare property in the Stags Leap District (Napa Valley), 12 hectares of which were planted with vines. A former industrialist, John Shafer gradually carried out extensive work on the vineyard, including the planting of Cabernet Sauvignon, with the ambition of making this terroir a leading name among California's finest wines.

Today, Shafer Vineyards looks after an 80-hectare vineyard planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah and Petite Sirah.
