At tasting, the Cellar Reserve Kalimna Block 25 Mataro 2010 of Penfolds presents a deep red colour. Pure, the nose reveals aromas of anise, licorice, black dragees and rum raisin. One can then detect fragrances of cold grilled meats seasoned with rosemary and tarragon, combined with notes of black fruit. On the palate, the wine reveals flavours of dark chocolate and cocoa bean, mixed with tasty touches of rum raisin, consistent with the nose. The wine also provides succulent tannins, before revealing itself to be generous, fleshy, juicy and very well balanced.

Coming from Penfolds' Kalimna Block 25, the 2010 Cellar Reserve Kalimna Mataro displays a deep garnet-purple color and aromas of warm blackberries, crushed plums and mulberries with a fragrant undercurrent of lilacs, mint and underbrush. Medium to full bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, it has a medium to firm level of grainy tannins, refreshing acidity and a long savory finish. Drink this one now to 2019+.
