The estate

Located 25 kilometres north of Florence, the Frescobaldi - Tenuta di Nipozzano estate benefits from a good exposure and natural protection against the vagaries of the weather thanks to its location in the Arno river valley. The estate's wines, symbolic of the Florentine wine tradition, can be characterised by their exceptional aromatic range, their exceptional length on the palate and their great ageing potential.

The vineyard

Montesodi 2018 de Frescobaldi - Tenuta di Nipozzano is an IGT Toscana wine that stems from its eponymous vineyard placed at 400 metres of altitude. This terroir rests on schist soils that benefit from a great position facing south-west.

The wine

Produced for only the great vintages since 1974, Montesodi is considered to be the most refined expression of Sangiovese.

The vintage

A wet and snowy winter came before a spring that alternated between sunny days and severe rainy spells, which helped build up water reserves in the soil. The spring warmth ensured a regular growth cycle. The summer was hot, with storms at the end of August, bringing much-needed coolness for a perfect ripening of the grapes. The 2018 harvests produced perfectly ripe grapes, concentrated with a wonderful freshness.

Winemaking and ageing

Following meticulous harvests by hand, the grapes were sorted. Alcoholic fermentation immediately after malolactic fermentation. Traditional maturation in Austrian and French oak barrels for 18 months, followed by a further 6 months in the bottle before being put on the market.

Tasting

Colour
The wine has a light, shining ruby red colour.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet, dominated by fruity (woodland fruit, cherry, strawberry) and floral (violet, wild rose) notes, developes into elegant tertiary scents which are followed at the finish by a hint of blood and spicy touches of clove and black pepper.

Palate
The elegant palate entices with its silky tannins and lasting finish.
