Description
Famille Bourgeois Sancerre Ruchons 2015: A Single-Parcel Sancerre with Gunflint Aromas
The Sancerre Ruchons cuvee Famille Bourgeois is a single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc and a brilliant, very representative reference of the Sancerre appellation in the Loire Valley. Ths single-vineyard wine is produced from a very special parcel measuring only 1.03 hectares. Close to the village of Saint-Satur in the northern part of the appellation, this parcel is known to have the highest concentration of silex (the signature soil of Sancerre). The vines here are quite old, having been planted in 1970. The Sancerre Ruchons by Famille Bourgeois is fermented in a combination of inox vats and oak barriques, the latter of which smooths out the characteristic acidity lent to the wine by its signature silex terroir.
In the glass, the Famille Bourgeois Les Ruchons 2015 shows off a pale golden colour. On the nose, this Sancerre reveas fresh citrus notes, like ripe orange, as well as a certain gunflint minerality typical of wines from this parcel. On the palate, this minerality comes through after a refreshing attack, harmonising beautifully with the delicate tannins and round structure lent to the wine by fine oak. The finish lingers long, revealing notes of caramel, succulent white fruit and the same gunflint. Ready to drink now, the Les Ruchons 2015 by Famille Bourgeois can also be aged for 10 to 12 years after its vintage.
