Description
An aromatic and unique Pinot Noir wine by Domaine Matrot
The estate
Domaine Matrot has been producing exceptional wines in the iconic appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny for 6 generations.
Adèle and Elsa Matrot joined their parents in this family-owned estate a few years ago. 2016 is the first vintage produced by the two sisters, who continue to strive for and seek excellence in the production of fine wines that reflect the characteristics of each vintage and of these fine Burgundian terroirs.
In 1976, Thierry Matrot implemented integrated vineyard management, and in 2000 the estate’s entire 24-hectare vineyard was converted to integrated vineyard management.
Domaine Matrot produces fine Burgundy wines that are known for their great finesse and their great ageing potential.
The vineyard
Neighbouring the Meursault Blagny Premier Cru white wine terroir, Domaine Matrot's 2016 Blagny La Pièce sous le Bois Premier Cru stems from a plot of vines that are 35 years old on average. Resting on a limestone soil, the Côte de Beaune appellations that house Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varieties on the same plot are few and far between.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed. Fermentation is carried out with wild yeast. Punching of the cap may be carried out twice a day if necessary. The wine is aged for 15 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new. Following racking, the end of the ageing process is carried out in vats for 3 months. A filtration is carried out before bottling.
