Description
Château Vieux Maillet 2016: a fruity and floral Pomerol
The Château Vieux Maillet is a red wine produced in the Pomerol appellation. The estate is 8.65 hectares (7.8 hectares in production) with vines averaging 35 years of age. They benefit from gravel soil, sandy clay loam, and brown sandy clay loam on deep gravel. The vines consist of 73% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvest for the 2016 vintage took place from September 27 to October 10 for Merlot and October 13 for Cabernet. The Château Vieux Maillet 2016 is aged in barrels (one-third in new barrels and the rest in one and two-year-old casks) for 12 to 14 months.
At tasting, this wine develops on the nose with a bouquet of black fruit and floral aromas. The Château Vieux Maillet 2016 is medium-bodied that has a smooth attack on the palate. In addition, the ageing in new barrels develops characteristic notes of vanilla and coconut. The wine has beautiful tannins. The Vieux Maillet 2016 is sincerely elegant wine.
This comment is mainly intended to describe a given moment of the general profile of the wine. Note that over time, the wine may have other organoleptic qualities since it may evolve in bottle.
