Description
A fine red wine from Fronsac
The estate
Owned by the Hervé family, with its debut vintage in 1890, Château Moulin Haut-Laroque is located in the Fronsac appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Driven by the ambition of the Hervé family and equipped with a cutting-edge, modern vat room, the property is one of the jewels of the Fronsac appellation, producing wines that offer pure expressions of this great terroir.
The vineyard
The Château Haut-Laroque vineyard covers 16 hectares of vines planted in shallow limestone soils. There are also clay-limestone soils, which benefit from excellent exposure on steep hillsides. The vines are 55 years old on average, with the grape varieties dominated by Merlot (65%), supplemented by Cabernet Franc (20%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Malbec (5%).
The winemaking
Following a manual harvest, triple sorting with total destemming, and handling of the berries exclusively with a gravity-led system, the vinification is carried out without the addition of sulphur. Fermentation takes place exclusively in barrels with extra-fine grains.
The ageing
18 months, 40% new barrels, the rest in barrels of one or two previous wines.
