Description
The elegance and minerality of a generous white wine by Mouton Rothschild
The estate
It was in 1853 that Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Château Brane-Mouton at auction. Located in the heart of the Médoc, in the appellation of Pauillac, the estate was renamed Château Mouton Rothschild. In 1924, Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins of the property. A visionary, he decided to initiate bottling directly at the estate and also designed a label for the wine. In 1973 Château Mouton Rothschild became a First Classified Growth. An icon of the Pauillac appellation, Château Mouton Rothschild has produced magnificent Bordeaux wines, known by wine lovers around the world.
The vineyard
Located north-west of Bordeaux, in the Médoc, the Château Mouton Rothschild vineyard covers 90 hectares. The vines are planted in stony, gravelly soils that capture the heat and restore it during the night, thus helping the grapes ripen. These poor, well-drained soils are lain over clay-gravelly subsoils, lending the wines of Château Mouton Rothschild a certain power, elegance and a tannic structure.
The vintage
After a milder-than-average winter and a cool spring, June was marked by heavy precipitation. It was in July that summer made its great appearance with high temperatures and some precipitation, which prevented the vines from suffering too much water stress. At Château Mouton Rothschild, the 2019 harvest began on September 5 with white grape varieties. The harvest of the vines dedicated to the production of Aile d’Argent was completed on September 11.
The blend
Sauvignon blanc (61%), sémillon (38%), muscadelle (1%).
The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Aile d'Argent white 2019 from Château Mouton Rothschild presents a beautiful, iridescent yellow colour with bright green reflections. The aromatic bouquet immediately charms the nose with its intense notes of exotic fruits, yellow fruits and floral fragrances evoking sweet acacia. On the palate, the wine gradually reveals its fullness and structure. The minerality and freshness of the vintage lend a brilliant depth to the palate. Gourmet apricot notes and mineral notes of "gun flint" punctuate the finish, which stretches out long, elegant and persistent.
