2015 Bordeaux Vintage

First Impressions

Right after the harvest had started, Bordeaux’s 2015 vintage was already creating a buzz. 2015 is definitely a good year for the region’s winemakers. After three vintages of unfavorable conditions (2011, 2012 and 2013), things finally picked up in 2014 and once again, it seems that this great wine producing region is about to remind wine lovers around the world why they keep a unique place in their hearts and palates for Bordeaux.

The dawn of a great vintage…

The region of Bordeaux, located on the 45th parallel, is on the northern limit of the world’s greatest red wine producing regions, requiring sunny summers to be able to give birth to great vintages. May, June, and July 2015 were among the hottest and driest on record. The 2015 vintage is being compared to the 2009 vintage as nobody has seen such an early veraison (change in color) since the impressive 2009 vintage. Indeed, water stress helped start the ripening process, which took place in early July, and therefore prompted veraison in early August. All the grapes were red to already purple by mid-August. Rain was welcomed in August, strengthening the grapes throughout the ripening process.

“It has been several years since Bordeaux has seen the dawn of such a beautiful vintage.”
