2014 Saint-Estèphe from Bordeaux
The 2014 Chateau Phélan Ségur is very well-produced. The nose is ample with a large aromatic palette of black fruits, released on good freshness. The whole is blended in refreshing red petal, fresh liquorice and black pepper notes. On the palate, this Saint-Estèphe is captivating by the juicy, fleshy and creamy aspect of its tannins; this delicate sappy aspect confers it its charm. This wine is a real success in a more charming, although less strong, character than usual.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The Château Phélan-Ségur 2014 has quite a high-toned bouquet with iodine-scented black fruit, touches of cassis and blueberry coming through with aeration. The palate is rounded and generous on the entry with fine tannin, though I feel it just lacks a little complexity and terroir expression towards the finish. I am aware than this Saint Estèphe improves a great deal by bottling, hence the plus sign. Tasted on three occasions, two showed a little rigidity towards the finish, but that will soften with élevage and bottle age.
